Practicing as a clinical social worker in the field of child and youth mental health for over 25 years Marlene has had the privilege of supporting many children, youth and families to overcome the impact of mental health challenges. Marlene is committed to helping people find new ways to work together to strengthen their most important relationships. Parents and caregivers want the best for their children but are often left wondering what to do when the inevitable challenges arise. Many are afraid to take action for fear of making things worse. Raising a child is a joyful yet complicated journey and Marlene believes in the power of family-based therapy to strengthen the foundational relationship connections that foster overall well-being.

Marlene has a Masters in Social Work degree from McMaster University and extensive experience providing therapy with individuals, families and groups. Marlene has training and experience working in Emotion Focused Skills Training, Emotion Focused Family Therapy, traditional Family Systems therapy, Connect Parent Group, Collaborative Problem Solving, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness and Narrative Therapy. Marlene engages in ongoing professional development to continually strengthen her skills and knowledge.

Marlene is a committed educator with extensive experience in field and academic student education, program development and the provision of training workshops. Marlene is a past sessional instructor with the McMaster School of Social Work and retired Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct) with the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at McMaster University where she provided clinical supervision and instruction in family therapy and academic instruction within the McMaster University Clinical Behaviour Sciences program. Marlene retired as a senior clinician with the McMaster Children’s Hospital Child and Youth Mental Health program in 2020.

Marlene is licensed as a social worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and is a member in good standing with the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
